Buttons in the Back

Description

A little girl whose nickname is Ortrud (which she doesn’t like), gets all shivery thinking if her dress for circus riding should be pink with gold stars or blue with silver spangles. She lives with her brothers (who say she looks like two eyes on the end of a stick) and has a large family whom she helps by trying to find Grandfather’s lost faith (perhaps in the breadbox?), collecting coupons for a bluebird ring for her Mama, and the adventure of going downtown alone to buy a new dress (pink with white ruffles and, alas, buttons down the back).
